Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do Indians need travel insurance while visiting China?

No. It is not mandatory for Indian residents travelling to China to have travel insurance, but we still recommend getting one. This is because even a quick visit to the clinic can be expensive. Hence, we recommend getting travel insurance so it can help pay for your medical bills in case you ever need to visit the hospital for an injury or illness during your trip to China.

What is the validity of my China travel insurance?

The validity of your China travel insurance depends on the type of policy you have purchased. If it is a single-trip policy, it stays valid up to your specified return date in India. However, an annual multi-trip insurance stays valid for a year.

Does travel insurance for China cover planned hospitalisation?

No. Travel insurance for China does not cover any kind of planned treatment. It will only cover emergency medical costs during your trip. E.g., you fall sick during your trip and need to visit the hospital.

Is China safe to travel to from India?

China is generally safe to visit from India. However, travel safety in case of overseas travel is subject to various factors such as geo-political conditions, immigration regulations, current health scenarios and so on. Make sure to look into all these factors to ensure an exciting trip to China.

What should I pack for your China trip?

Here are a couple of important things to pack/keep on hand when travelling to China – Weather-appropriate clothing, such as winter wear, if you are going between November to March. Comfortable footwear and modest outfits for religious places. China travel insurance, travel itinerary, passport and visa. Keep both hard and soft copies with you. Basic first-aid kit with bandages, antiseptic cream and a few other essentials, and any prescription medicines. Check what medication you’re allowed to carry into China. For power banks, note that the made-in-China power banks need to have a CCC (China Compulsory Certification) mark to pass airport security. Foreign-made power banks (without the CCC mark) need to meet CE or FCC standards. China mainly uses Type A, Type C, and Type I plugs. You’ll also need power converters since standard voltage in China and Hong Kong is 220V/50 Hz, while it’s 110 - 120V at 60 Hz in Taiwan. You will also need to carry enough cash (make sure to exchange your currency at the airport). Note that China uses 3 types of currencies - the Chinese Yuan (CNY), used in mainland China; the New Taiwan Dollar (TWD), used in Taiwan; and the Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), used in Hong Kong. Check for the currency accepted in the area you’ll be visiting when planning your trip.

How much does travel insurance for China cost?

Our plans for China start at just 306*. However, the premium prices depend on multiple factors when calculating the cost of travel insurance for your trip to China. Some of these are as follows: Policy duration: Depends on the length of your stay. Sorter stays result in lower costs compared to longer stays. Coverage: Higher sum insured plans mean higher premiums, but they also provide more coverage. So it’s best to strike a balance between coverage and affordability. Type of plan: Single-trip insurance is more cost-effective than an annual multi-trip policy. However, the latter is affordable for frequent visits to China, as you don’t have to purchase a travel policy each time you visit.

Can I extend my China travel insurance?

Yes. You can easily extend your China travel insurance if your trip is extended for any reason. To do this, you need to submit a duly filled Extension Form along with a Good Health Declaration Form.
