Zero Depreciation in Bike Insurance

Bike parts, especially the outer body and plastic components, tend to wear out quickly due to frequent use, bad roads, weather changes and minor accidents. In a regular bike insurance policy, these parts lose value over time due to depreciation, meaning you don’t get the full claim amount during repairs. This often leaves you paying a significant portion of the repair bill out of pocket—even if your bike is insured. That’s where a Zero Depreciation Cover becomes essential.

Imagine your bike skids during a rainy ride, causing scratches on the side panels and damage to the indicators. Even though you have insurance, without Zero Depreciation, the claim will be reduced because of the age and wear of these parts. You’ll still have to cover the rest from your own pocket.

With Zero Depreciation Cover from IndusInd General Insurance (formerly Reliance General Insurance), your full repair cost is covered — no deduction for part wear and tear. Enjoy benefits like full claim payout on replaced parts, faster claim processing, and support from our 11,000+ authorised network garages across India. With this add-on, your bike stays protected without burning a hole in your wallet.

Benefits of Zero Depreciation Add-On

animation icon
Protects Costly Spare Parts

Premium bikes often use special alloy wheels, LED headlamps, or high-grade plastic body panels. These parts degrade quickly but are expensive to replace. Zero Depreciation means you won’t bear the cost of their wear-and-tear loss when making a claim.

animation icon
Reduces Out-of-Pocket Costs

Because IRDAI-mandated depreciation on plastic/rubber parts is 50%, many bike owners may end up paying a significant portion of the repair cost out of pocket when those parts are replaced. With Zero Dep, you avoid these deductions, keeping more money in your pocket.

animation icon
Ideal for New Bikes & High-End Models

Newer or premium motorcycles (with features like alloy rims, fuel injection, tubeless tyres) can have replacement parts costing ₹5,000‑₹15,000+ each. Depreciation for such parts can eat a large chunk of your claim if Zero Dep is not opted for.

animation icon
Full Benefit for Plastic & Rubber Components

Items like mudguards, switchgear, grips, or footrests may have high depreciation rates due to weather or wear. Zero Dep ensures these are fully covered without reduction based on age or condition.

animation icon
Frequent Repairs, Less Financial Strain

If you ride daily in city traffic, where minor scratches or hits are common, each repair without Zero Dep means a depreciation cut. Over a year, these add up; the cover makes frequent small claims more affordable.

animation icon
Transparent Claim Settlement Process

Because depreciation isn’t calculated for many parts, the claim becomes simpler. Less negotiation or dispute happens over how much value to deduct—leading to faster settlements and less stress for you.

Who Should Buy Zero Depreciation Cover?

1

New bike owners: Ideal for those who’ve recently purchased a new two-wheeler, as it ensures maximum claim value without depreciation cuts.

2

Owners of premium or expensive bikes: Repairing or replacing costly parts like fairings, alloys and LED units can be expensive—zero dep helps save big.

3

Riders in accident-prone areas: If you commute in busy city traffic or on accident-prone highways, this add-on is highly recommended.

4

First-time riders: Beginners are more likely to face minor damages or accidents; this cover ensures they don’t lose out financially.

5

Long-term planners: Those who want to maintain their bike’s resale value benefit as claims are settled with minimal out-of-pocket costs.

Things to Remember Before Buying Zero Depreciation

We allow only 1–2 zero depreciation claims in a policy year. Beyond this limit, normal depreciation rules will apply to further claims.
Zero depreciation cover is usually available only for bikes up to 7 years old*. If your bike is older, you may not be eligible for this add-on.
The add-on covers plastic, rubber, and fibre components that usually depreciate faster. However, parts like tyres and batteries are often excluded, so check the fine print.
You can buy zero depreciation cover only with a comprehensive insurance policy. It is not available with third-party liability plans.
Regular wear and tear, mechanical or electrical breakdowns, and damages from illegal modifications are not covered under this add-on.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is zero depreciation cover in bike insurance?

Zero Depreciation Cover is an add-on to your standard bike insurance policy. It ensures that when you file a claim, you get the full cost of repairing or replacing damaged parts—without any deduction for depreciation (wear and tear). This includes parts like plastic panels, rubber components, metal parts, etc., which usually attract a 30–50% cut during claim settlement in a normal policy.

Can I get zero depreciation bike insurance beyond 5 years?

With IndusInd General Insurance, yes. We offer this add-on for vehicles up to 7 years of age.

Does zero dep cover tyres?

No, Zero Depreciation Cover usually does not cover tyres. Tyres are considered separate consumable parts and are often excluded. However, you can opt for a Tyre Protection Cover as an additional add-on to ensure tyres are covered for damage due to potholes, punctures, or bursts.

Is it worth it to take zero depreciation?

Yes, it is worth it—especially if your bike is new, premium, or used frequently in busy or rough road conditions. With Zero Depreciation Cover, you save money on repair bills because the insurer pays the full cost for parts without reducing it due to age or usage. Over time, this can lead to significant savings and reduce out-of-pocket expenses.

What is IDV in bike insurance?

IDV stands for Insured Declared Value. It is the current market value of your bike and the maximum amount your insurer will pay in case of total loss or theft. IDV decreases every year as your bike ages. Choosing the right IDV ensures you are neither underinsured nor overpaying on your premium.

Are there any conditions to be aware about while filing a zero dep claim?

Yes. Claims must follow certain conditions like: Damage must not be due to illegal use or negligence, Only authorised garages should be used for repairs, Regular wear and tear or mechanical breakdowns are not covered. Always read the policy terms carefully to ensure your claim is eligible.
